SLP 80

Spherical polishing - fast and precise

Information

Introducing the SLP 80: Common meets extraordinary
The Spheroline® SLP 80 has been designed for optics manufacturing in the popular range of 80 mm with extraordinary cost-efficiency and processing versatility.

The highly robust and compact machine features the most modern CNC controls and process technology. The dedicated kinematics establish the basis for high quality polishing processes with maximum flexibility. The machine’s capabilities can be further extended by an aspherical polishing option for processing a variety of aspheric geometries.

The mixture of intelligent and compact design, cutting-edge technology, and highly versatile processing options make the SLP 80 a great choice for start-ups and established productions alike. The result is high-quality processing of custom and serial optics up to 80 mm and beyond.

Smart and compact design
The basis of the SLP 80 is a cast-iron machine frame for high stiffness and stability. The kinematics with the upper swivel axis result in a very small machine footprint while still offering a large swivel angle for processing strongly curved lenses. The modern CNC control system in conjunction with the quality-defining AC-servo drive technique enable high precision lens processing.

Effective polishing, setup, and correction
The SLP 80 S1/1 comes with one polishing spindle opposite the work piece spindle. The patented Auto Teaching module enables a fully automated setup process of the polishing tool and the work piece. The contact of the tool and the work piece is detected with high accuracy. The procedure reduces the setup time and ensures the correct settings under all conditions. The crash risk due to improper setup is virtually eliminated.

The automated detection and alignment of the polishing tool length guarantees the precise oscillation of the tool around the radius center – the most critical parameter for high form accuracy and process stability.

This enables the reproducible polishing of lenses with very thin edges and other unique geometries. Simply exchanging the lens with a dressing tool allows for an accurate correction of the polishing tool using the work piece spindle. Tools can easily be changed using the state-of-the-art hydro expansion technology, providing high repeatability. The ease-of-use is greatly enhanced by graphically assisted form correction routines that minimize any form deviations.

Aspherical package
The aspherical option for the SLP 80 offers pre- and corrective polishing of convex and concave aspherical lenses. Based on a tool function profile (tool footprint) that is taken in the polishing machine and the use of the external SCHNEIDER Simulation Software, lens specific correction profiles are calculated for the individual polishing task. These feed rate profiles, that explicitly take the lens conditions like geometry, material, roughness etc. into account, are transferred back into the polishing machine afterwards.

The aspherical option further increases the versatility of the machine, providing even more flexibility in parts processing.

Data communication
The system interfaces to an Ethernet connection and to the SCHNEIDER Optical Technology (SOT) software enabling smooth and effective data exchange for setup and operation. The service is supported by an intelligent analysis system with remote diagnostic.

A graphical user interface assists the operator for simple and fast communication tasks with the SLP 80. Tools can easily be defined as the SOT software supports the operator in calculating the optimal tool geometries and simulating the processing configuration in advance. The tooling requirements are transferred as printable drawings.

The seamless link of the SLP 80 with external aspherical measuring equipment assures a smooth and flawless process flow. The corrections are transferred to the machine via network connection or USB. The processing capabilities of the SLP 80 make this machine a perfect mate for SCHNEIDER grinding machines like the Spheroline® SLG 80 and maximizes the value of your processing equipment.
