Introducing the SLG 60
The Spheroline SLG 60 is the ideal choice for manufacturing optics in the range of 2 to 60 mm diameter. The extremely robust and compact machine features most modern CNC controls and advanced process technology. Its special kinematics and spindle configurations form the basis for grinding spherical, and optionally aspherical and freeform optics with maximum flexibility.
This offers a wide variety in application at highest quality with just one single machine. The extra versatile speed range enables ideal conditions for micro
optics manufacturing.
The mix of intelligent and compact design, highly flexible machining capabilities and extensive metrology options make the SLG 60 a good choice for any production. The result is high-quality machining of customized and series optics in the medium to micro range.

Smart and compact kinematics design
The platform of the SLG 60 is a cast iron machine frame that provides the high rigidity and stability for the intelligently designed machine and kinematics. The clever arrangement of the axes in relation to the workpiece as well as the sophisticated tool clamping setup facilitate highest accuracies.
Despite its small footprint the SLG 60 offers a large range of machining options, e.g. for flat and steep curved lenses.
The modern CNC control system together  with the quality-defining AC-servo drive technique enable high precision lens processing.

Double-spindle technology
SLG 60 enables rough grinding including centering and beveling on one spindle followed by fine grinding on the second spindle. This offers higher process flexibility, stability, and further increases productivity.
The choice of different spindle options - direct driven airbearing or ball bearing - allows configuration the manufacturing needs at hand.
While the air bearing spindle provides ideal conditions for machining at extra high rpms and therefore is the optimal choice for micro optics machining, the ball bearing spindle offers the versatility to process a wide range of optics of different sizes.
SLG 60 can be equipped with two different clamping diameter (Z6 or Z12), making it the only machine in the market to adequately cater to and support the different tool sizes required to process both smaller and lager optics. While the 6 mm clamping diameter is ideal for smaller optics, the 12 mm diameter offers the right stability for larger tools and optics. The tool change is easily carried out through the automatic tool clamping system, which ensures a high repeatability.

Sophisticated metrology
In addition to the two dimensional measuring capabilites, SLG 60 offers 3D measurements, right inside the machine. An extra probe provides additional readings for further information.
A digital spherometer linked to the CNC controller allows for the precise control of the sagittal height in all three axes. The number of required reference parts can be kept low as the radius of your reference surface can differ significantly from the surface of the processed lens. This greatly reduces costs and efforts.

Feed control
The consistent high performance and tight process control is supported by the Feed Control function. Its first touch technology minimizes the air cutting during tool approach to a minimum – saving valuable process time. Feed Control also optimizes the grinding process by adjusting the feed rate of the tool with respect to shorter cycle times and better cutting conditions.

Data communication
The system interfaces to an Ethernet network connection and to the SCHNEIDER  Optical Technology (SOT) software enabling smooth and effective data exchange for setup and operation. The service is supported by an intelligent analysis system with remote diagnostics.
A graphical user interface assists the operator for simple and fast communication tasks. The SLG 60 supports data exchange with external devices, e.g. measuring equipment.
An OPC-UA interface allows for tracking essential data about the machining parameters and conditions for subsequent analysis, e.g. rpms, load of the spindles, and temperatures.
The processing capabilities of the SLG 60 make this machine a perfect and freeform package mate for the SCHNEIDER polishers and maximizes the value of your processing equipment.
