Surfacing Center SCG 250 at Optifab: Excellent grinding of large freeform optics

This past week SPIE’s Optifab, North America’s largest event focused on optical fabrication, drew experts from the precision optical industry to Rochester, NY, to learn about the news and latest research in the field.

As a key supplier to the industry, SCHNEIDER contributed to the event showcasing its state-of-the-art equipment and presenting its newest achievements, e.g. in ultra-precise machining, to the international audience.

A special highlight was SCHNEIDER’s surfacing center SCG 250 that is capable of excellent grinding of large freeform optics in the 250 mm range – even when confronted with various geometries and demanding specifications.

The SCG 250’s unique mechanical design combines ideal axis configurations for excellent grinding of large spherical, aspherical, and freeform optics in one machine. Its innovative kinematics and spindle setup allow for both cup and peripheral wheel grinding in one process cycle, resulting in superb form accuracy and minimized surface roughness.

The optional packages include fast automation and sophisticated in-process measurement technology for higher productivity and process stability.
